On September 24th 2014, the KJI conducted training for lay judges which covered their significance in judicial procedure.
The training discussed about main features and the principles of the juvenile procedure, status matters procedure, as well as on ethics for lay judges. Also it emphasized the role of lay judges in preparatory procedure, in judicial review, in advising and voting sessions including here the procedure for statutory matters, as well as ethics of lay judges. Particular attention was paid to the constituency of the trial panel, approach of the lay judge towards a particular case as well as avoiding unethical behavior.
In the afternoon session participants were presented with case studies, and lay judges were able to demonstrate their knowledge related to concrete situations.
Beneficiaries of this training were lay judges from Basic Courts of Kosovo.
