Report on the roundtable on “Forensic expertise – Challenges in practical implementation of legislation”

Kosovo Judicial Institute in cooperation with Ministry of Justice/ its Forensic Department, organized a workshop on “Forensic expertise – Challenges in practical application of legislation”, which took place during 19-21st of December 2014.

Purpose of this roundtable was discussion of practical aspects of the work of judges, prosecutors and forensic experts, as well as of respective institutions aiming the increase of efficiency and mutual professionalism in meeting the legal obligations.

This roundtable provided elaboration of important topics for professional capacity development in the area of forensics like: criminal law in relation to forensic expertise, prosecution challenges in applying the forensic related legislation, cooperation with justice institutions, forensic expertise objects and other practical issues.

Significant part in this roundtable was presentation of Prof. Dr. Sokrat Meksi, forensic expert from the Forensic Institute in Tirana, who focused on the topic of “Scientific contribution of forensic expertise to the justice bodies”, where he presented scientific achievements in the forensics area and their relation with the work that forensic experts and judicial professionals do, to the function of bringing justice to different cases.

Part of this roundtable was visit to the Forensic Institute in Tirana, in order to see closely work of this institution in supporting the judiciary with forensic expertise.

Kosovo participated at this roundtable with attending representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Kosovo Judicial Institute, Kosovo Judicial Council, Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Forensic Department, and Judges and Prosecutors.
