Training of Commercial Law Judges in Kosovo – Phase II

During March 24-26th 2015, Kosovo Judicial Institute in cooperation with RIPA International conducted the second phase of the training for the commercial law judges in Kosovo.

This training aimed to present ideas for case management system and their fair and effective handling avoiding unnecessary delays, correct treatment and respecting the rights of all parties.

On the first day, experts conducted the training in courts, where they discussed with judges on challenges and needs they have for overcoming difficulties they face in actual judicial practice.

On the second and third day, experts focused on introducing to the judges ideas for exploring new working ways, categorization of cases, identification of strategies for reducing backlog, and their application in practice.

Judgment structuring and provision of reasoning, application of sanctions for parties that do not adhere to court’s rules and delay without any reason further development of the procedure, instructing and encouraging parties to solve their dispute in mediation or another form of alternative resolution, were among topics elaborated by experts of this training.

The training was interactive at all stages, with raising issues for discussion by judges, in order to share best practices and their practical implementation. On this topic the third stage of the training will be taking place.

Beneficiaries of this training were judges of the Supreme Court Special Chamber and judges of Basic Court in Prishtina– Commercial Department.
