On 17-18 May 2016, KJI within Continuous Training Program (CTP) in cooperation with EULEX and UNWOMEN organized training on: “War crimes with the focus on sexual violence”.
This training was organized with the aim of advancing the knowledge and professional skills of investigators, prosecutors and judges regarding aspects of the investigation, prosecution and trial of cases of conflicts related to the war with elements of sexual violence crimes.
Within two-day training was elaborated the applicable law in Kosovo, including international criminal law, elements of sexual violence offenses, practical aspects and procedural rules documenting the crimes of this nature and the strategy of proving in the right way during the procedure. Further, were elaborated the interview techniques, obtaining evidence and types of evidence, as well as preparation of cases on crimes of sexual violence.
Also during the training was discussed about protection measures and the importance of establishing an efficient scheme for the protection of witnesses and victims of this nature. Whereas, in the final phase of the training were discussed different forms of individual criminal responsibility, including direct responsibility and command responsibility.
The training methodology was interactive discussion and practical cases.
Beneficiaries of this training were judges of basic and appellate level, basic level prosecutors and special investigators and police from War Crime Department Kosovo Police.
