Visit of the High Council of Justice of Albania’ delegation to the Academy of Justice

Prishtina, 02 June 2017, Acting Director of the Academy of Justice Mr. Besim Morina together with Heads of AD Departments, hosted in a meeting a delegation from the High Council of Justice (HCJ) of Albania headed by Mr. Gjin Gjoni member of the High Council of Justice and President of the Balkan and Euro- Mediterranean Network of Councils for the Judiciary, accompanied by members of the HCJ and other associates.

The delegation of the High Council of Justice (Albania) is conducting an official two-day visit that aims discussion and exchange of experiences between the peer justice institutions of the two countries.

At this meeting, Acting Director of the Academy of Justice informed the HCJ delegation on legal and functional changes that took place upon transformation of the Kosovo Judicial Council into the Academy of Justice.

Delegation of Albania was acquainted with types and methods of training that Academy of Justice delivers, as well as legally foreseen competencies of the Academy of Justice.

Mr. Gjin Gjoni, member of the HCJ and President of the Balkan and Euro- Mediterranean Network of Councils for the Judiciary, highlighted significance of the Academy of Justice’s and of the School of Magistrates’ work for professional preparation of new judges and prosecutors, and emphasized that this Academy can contribute considerably in an independent judiciary and to the rule of law.

During the course of the meeting, the HCJ member, Mr. Gjoni presented organization and functioning of the High Council of Justice of Albania, stressing out difficulties and problems that this judicial system has currently.

From discussions it was noted that there are common challenges of both institutions while carrying out their objectives in the area of justice, and they unanimously agreed to increase further cooperation between the two states.
