Training “Prosecutor – Victim advocate relation from their jurisdiction perspective”

On July 3rd 2014, the KJI within its Continuous Training Program organized a training on “Prosecutor – Victim advocate relation from their jurisdiction perspective”.

Focus of the training was strengthening of cooperation between prosecutors - victim advocates with the purpose of better implementation of legal changes in the criminal procedure, and practical application of the victim’s rights, with particular emphasis on some victim categories that the Victims Advocacy and Assistance Office and the State Chief Prosecutor give importance with regard to their treatment in accordance with local and international legislation,  i.e. their respectful and treatment during the criminal procedure.

At the training important issues related to criminal procedure were elaborated, to include the victim’s rights and their representation, obtaining the statement in preliminary procedure, access of the injured party and of the victim advocate in case files, statement on the punishment, as well as types of criminal offences that the victim advocates deal with. Also, while elaborating this topic some of the dilemmas with regard to competencies of the prosecutor and the victim advocate were overcome.

This was an interactive training including discussion of some cases from the judicial case law.

Beneficiaries of the training were victim advocates from all regions of Kosovo and prosecutors and judges of basic instance.
