CALL FOR APPLICATION - HELP course- “Women’s Access to Justice”

The Academy of Justice in cooperation with the Council of Europe invites legal professionals to apply for the Human Rights Course for Legal Professionals (HELP) on: "Women's Access to Justice", which aims to help legal professionals to understand legal and other barriers when access to justice by applying a gender lens to their daily work.

Although the legal status of women in Europe has improved over the past decades, effective equality between women and men is far from being a reality. Therefore, states have made specific commitments to improve women's access to justice and to prevent and combat violence against women. The role of legal professionals of the justice system in ensuring and strengthening access to justice for women is essential in achieving equality and guaranteeing equal rights for all in society.

The HELP course Women's Access to Justice is organized within the regional project "Women's Access to Justice in theWestern Balkans" and interactively covers a comprehensive overview of international and European standards of human rights, women's rights and gender equality, the case law of the European Court of Human Rights and the good practices established by the states. Using the objective of women's access to justice, it will provide legal professionals with a unique and concrete tool for promoting gender-sensitive justice.

The course consists of six core modules:

1. Introduction to the concept of access to justice;

2. International and European legal framework;

3. Discrimination based on sex and gender;

4. Avoiding gender stereotypes;

5. Practical guidelines to improve women's access to justice;

6. Gender sensitive approach to law enforcement

This course will be launched on 17 April 2024 and is offered online through the HELP Platform (Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals), which is the Council of Europe's main educational platform for capacity building of legal professionals.
