The Academy of Justice in cooperation with the Council of Europe invites legal professionals to apply for the Course on the topic: “Human Rights and the Environment”, on the HELP platform.
Biodiversity loss, climate change, species extinction, pollution and the general degradation of ecosystems have a profound global impact on the enjoyment of human rights and require the widest possible international cooperation to prevent or remedy this negative impact. Environmental protection and protection of human rights are compounded: they cannot be achieved without the other nor at the expense of the other. Life and well-being on our planet are conditioned by our collective capacity to guarantee both human rights and a healthy environment for future generations. A number of international human rights standards, including the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Social Charter, have been successfully applied to environmental issues.
The HELP course “Human Rights and the Environment” addresses legal frameworks and practical approaches that will assist legal practitioners and others in understanding the links between human rights and the environment, in particular how to implement a human rights-based approach to environmental protection.
The course consists of four core modules:
1. Key concepts;
2. Human rights-based approach to environmental protection;
3. Green human rights in regional human rights systems;
4. Environmental degradation and corporate accountability.
The course is expected to last approximately two (2) months from the launch date.
This course will be launched on 07 April 2025 and will be offered through the Council of Europe HELP Platform and will be taught by Mr. Afrim Shala judge of the Supreme Court.
Those interested in participating in this training can apply until April 2nd 2025, by sending an email with his/her details (name, institution, email, phone) to the Distance Learning Officer at: naim.h.qerimaj@rks-gov.net
