Trial within a Reasonable Time under Article 6 of the ECHR: Unreasonable Length of Civil and Criminal Proceedings in the Jurisprudence of the ECtHR
On November 18, 2025, the Academy of Justice, within the framework of the Continuous Training Program and in cooperation with the Council of Europe – Project “Supporting the Constitutional Court in the Implementation and Dissemination of the Standards of the European Court of Human Rights”, is organizing a training on the topic: “Trial within a reasonable time under Article 6 of the ECHR: Unreasonable Length of Civil and Criminal Proceedings in the Jurisprudence of the ECtHR.”
Trainers engaged in this activity are Ms. Valdete Daka, Judge at the Supreme Court of Kosovo, Mr. Hajredin Kuqi, Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Prishtina.
The purpose of this training is to enhance participants’ understanding and practical application of Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights, with a special focus on the European Court of Human Rights’ jurisprudence concerning the right to a trial within a reasonable time. Participants will explore key principles, criteria, and judicial standards used by the ECtHR in assessing unreasonable delays in both civil and criminal proceedings.
The training methodology will use PowerPoint presentations, interactive discussions. These methods aim to encourage active debate and allow participants to share challenges they encounter in applying Article 6 in practice.
Beneficiaries of the training are judges and prosecutors from the basic instance.
