Training of Trainers – Treatment of Femicide cases

March 14, 2024, the Academy of Justice in cooperation with AIRE CENTER (Advice on Individual Rights in Europe), conducted a training of trainers on: "Treatment of Femicide Cases in Kosovo". This training came as a result of the 10th regional forum on the Rule of Law in South-Eastern Europe organized by AIRE CENTER during 2023, which included members of the Judges Network in the field of Freedoms and Human Rights and Gender Equality, proposed by the KJC as well as judges from the Constitutional Court. The purpose of the training was for the participants to discuss more broadly about the Femicide Cases Guideline recently published by AIRE CENTRE, the Guideline elaborates in detail the issues of femicide starting from the notion, legal provisions, weighting of punishment of femicide cases, victims and injured parties, claims for compensation, etc. The trainers engaged by AIR Center, Mrs. Nevena Petrusic and Mrs. Kosna Beker had the opportunity to interactively discuss with the participants the definition of the criminal offense, mitigating and aggravating circumstances stereotypes and prejudices in cases of femicide, also elaborating on practical cases based on regional court decisions. The Academy of Justice aims to, through these trainings, which of course will continue in the future, to raise awareness and professional capacities among trainers, judges and prosecutors specifically in dealing with cases of femicide, as a global phenomenon, especially when it is known that femicide as a phenomenon in none of the Western Balkan states (except the state of North Macedonia) is not foreseen as a further criminal offense. Beneficiaries of the training were the members of the network of Judges in the field of Freedoms and Human Rights and Gender Equality, namely 2 Judges from the Constitutional Court, 1 Judge from the Court of Appeal and 1 Judge from the Basic Court.
