Description :

The following thematic areas will be covered in the training program through analysis of the ECtHR Jurisprudence:
Right to liberty and security, Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR)
Non-absolute nature of the right to liberty and security
Lawful deprivation of the right to liberty;
Pre-trial detention;
Guarantees for persons deprived of liberty.

Objectives :

To advance knowledge regarding the standards and practice of the ECHR regarding the Right to Liberty and Security
To increasingly use alternative measures to ensure the presence of the defendant in the proceedings in relation to the measure of detention on remand;
To reduce the duration of detention on remand;
To provide qualitative reasoning when imposing and extending the measure of detention on remand
