Visit to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg and to ERA in Brussels

Within the activities of international cooperation and development in order to promote training programs, a delegation of KJI on June 13 and June 14, 2012 conducted an official visit to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg and in Brussels at the Academy for European Law (ERA) and to the General Directorate for Education and Culture in the European Commission.

At the European Court of Justice, the KJI delegation was received by Mr. Konraed Lenaerts, President of the Chamber of the Court, Mr. Marko Ilesic and Mr. Miro Prek, Judges of the Court, Ms. Verica Trstenjak, General Advocate at the Court and Mr. J. Kuerten, Principal Administrator at the Department of Library of the Court. They informed the KJI delegation about the work of the court, and especially about the possibility for future cooperation and communication between KJI and the European Court of Justice in order to support with the case-law of the European Court of Justice. They also informed the delegation about the challenges that member states faced in the justice reform on their way to European integration.

The KJI delegation informed the representatives of the court about the developments of the judicial system in Kosovo, especially in the field of legal education of judges and prosecutors and the efforts of KJI to include the EU Law (Acquis Communitaire) and the case-law of the European Court of Justice into all training programs.

Further the delegation of KJI had the opportunity to follow closely a hearing in the European Court of Justice and to conduct a visit to the Library of the Court.

The meetings in Brussels began with a meeting at the General Directorate for Education and Culture at the European Commission. The delegation was received by Mrs. Leonor Wiesner, Policy Officer in the Jean Monnet Program. She informed the delegation about the objectives of the Jean Monnet program; preparations for the transformation of this program, while at the meeting also were discussed the possibilities for future cooperation in this program with KJI.

There, the KJI delegation met with Ms. Kerstin Hotzel, Head of the ERA office in Brussels. During the meeting they discussed the possibilities of support from ERA for the training programs and KJI activities related to EU Law and opportunities for cooperation in the future.
